Consistent Hashing Ring

Stripe's distributed payment infrastructure uses consistent hashing for sharding payment records, routing sessions to stateful servers, and distributing idempotency-key lookups. Without consistent hashing, every server change causes a full cache flush — catastrophic for a payments system.
