Geohash is the spatial indexing primitive behind Uber's and DoorDash's real-time driver search. It converts 2D coordinates into a 1D string that preserves proximity — nearby places share a common prefix. By querying 9 cells (center + 8 neighbors) you eliminate boundary-miss false negatives.
